From Bulli to Colossus: Why my T4 is too small for me (and the next big adventure awaits!)

July 2026 · 5 min. reading time · from yours Tussy

There are these moments in life when you sit in the sliding door of your van in the morning with a cup of coffee, look at the sea - and involuntarily pull your knees up because the cool box is in the way again.

Don't get me wrong: I love my T4. He took me over Alpine passes, to lonely beaches and through sleepless, beautiful thunderstorm nights. It's not a car, it's a way of life. But let's not kid ourselves: Anyone who lives, travels or even just spends a rainy weekend in the T4 is constantly playing Tetris on wheels. One wrong move and the clean laundry ends up in the coffee powder.

After years of “head down” and “compact thinking”, I have made a decision. I don't want to shrink anymore. I want to go big. In the truest sense of the word.

The moment when the world became too small

The initial spark came a few weeks ago on a parking space in Scandinavia. A converted four-wheel-drive expedition truck was parked next to me. An absolute monster of a vehicle. While I was trying to hang up my wet jacket in the rain so that it wouldn't flood the bed, the neighbor felt like I was sitting in a cozy old building apartment on wheels - with headroom, a fixed bed and a kitchen that deserves the name.

That's when it clicked. Why always restrict? Why not think a little bigger about your dream of a mobile home? A whole Number larger.

Mission: truck driving license 🚛

The plan is there, but before the dream Reality comes - and the bureaucracy. In order to legally drive such a large vehicle through the country, my normal driving license is of course not enough.

That means to me: Back to driving school! I'll be going to school in the next few weeks, studying theory and trying to maneuver a monster that weighs several tons through city traffic without any accidents. The idea of soon being behind the wheel of a real truck gives me a lot of respect - but the anticipation outweighs it.

The big question: build it yourself or buy it ready-made?

Once the certificate is in your pocket, the real adventure begins. And honestly? I have absolutely none yet No idea what happens afterwards. The gears in my head are constantly turning and I vacillate between two extremes every day:

What will happen in the end? We'll see. I'll take you with me every step of the way.

Accompany me on this journey!

This is the start of a completely new chapter. I have no idea whether I'll fail the first theory test, whether I'll miss a traffic light when parking in the driving school truck, or whether I'll end up standing in front of an empty truck and despairing. But that's exactly what it's all about, right?

Do you have any experience with your truck driver's license or maybe even drive an "expedition vehicle"? What would you do: completely expand it yourself or buy it ready-made? Be sure to write it down for me Comments on YouTube!

Get ready - it's going to be big!

Keep your ears straight until the next update from driving school,
